Life as an IT manager

The role of an IT Manager combines technical and managerial skills, playing a key role in integrating and managing technologies within companies. As an IT Manager, I would be responsible for coordinating technological projects, managing teams, and finding effective solutions to meet the company’s technological needs while considering economic challenges.

One of the key aspects of this job is the ability to manage stress and interact effectively with others, as I experienced during the conference of the Forum Horizon when I felt a bit panicked when questions were asked to the audience. This ability to manage stress, combined with technical expertise, is crucial for an IT Manager, who often has to balance strategic decisions, team management, and problem-solving.

The conference also gave me a better understanding of the Swiss education system and the different training paths, particularly the ES (École Supérieure) and HES (Haute École Spécialisée) programs. These programs offer a good balance between theory and practice. At ES, students can specialize in areas like telecommunications, mechanics, electronics, and information management, while HES provides a more hands-on approach with internationally recognized diplomas. The HES program, offering a dual degree with Finland, seems particularly appealing for gaining practical, international skills.

Despite the initial stress, I found the conference valuable in providing a clearer idea of what a career in technology management might look like. Even if I am not yet 100% certain about pursuing this path, an internship experience would help me confirm or rule out my interest in this field. Ultimately, the conference helped me better understand the requirements and opportunities within the IT Manager role, while reassuring me about the possibility of combining theory and practice in my education.

Overall, although I felt a bit stressed at first, I seem to have taken valuable notes and developed a better understanding of the field. The conference gave me a positive overview, reflecting a good balance between my expectations and the information received.
