Like many students I experience the fear of disappointing those around me. This fear is often connected to academic pressure, family expectations, and societal standards. My fear can lead to anxiety, self-doubt, and a constant need to prove myself.
One key aspect of this fear is the pressure to meet both internal and external expectations. In my family where education is important, I tend to feel the weight of continuing a legacy. Add to that, the societal message about success, intelligence, and even gender roles, and the fear becomes more complex. It can result in high standards, procrastination, or the belief that one mistake defines everything.
However, this fear can also become a starting point for personal growth. By identifying its roots like the archetype of a people-pleaser which is comparison with others. But we can begin to develop healthier coping strategies. Like setting realistic goals, acknowledging progress, and building support systems that offer both encouragement and perspective. Most importantly, learning to redefine success on personal terms can transform fear into motivation.
