When I started my second year of high school, the idea of choosing a career felt overwhelming. I had some ideas, but I wasn’t sure. I was afraid of making the wrong choice or ending up in a job that didn’t suit me. I didn’t know how to explore my options or where to start.
That’s when we were asked to begin a career exploration project. First, I met with a career counselor. I had alreadyprepared several questions about my future, thinking it would be a quick discussion. But the meeting turned out to bemuch more useful than I expected. The counselor asked me new questions I hadn’t thought about. She helped me understand the differences between similar study paths and pointed out options I hadn’t considered. That meetingopened my mind.
Then, I participated in several professional conferences during the Horizon Forum. I listened to experts from differentfields finance, marketing, international relations, journalism and tried to imagine myself in each profession.
- I realized that marketing was too focused on creativity for me.
- Journalism seemed interesting, but I’m not comfortable with writing and being in the spotlight.
- International relations caught my attention because of its openness and accessibility.
- But the one that really stood out to me was finance and accounting.
Why ? Because it made sense. It was logical, structured, and focused on analysis and decision-making areas I enjoy. I’ve always liked numbers and planning things out. I started to see myself in that field. I learned about the types of degrees I would need, the schools I could go to, and what kind of jobs I could expect after graduation.
This project gave me something I didn’t expect : confidence. I now have a much clearer vision of my future, and I know that my goal studying business and accounting is both realistic and motivating. It may still evolve over time, but for now, I feel grounded in a direction that fits who I am.
