Sports journalist and sports manager

In this article, I’m going to share my experience and explain how I managed to find the career I wanted. We know that it’s difficult for students to find a career or a career path.

When I started secondary school, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, although I had a few ideas. But it wasn’t until I took the time to ask myself the right questions about what would make me « want to get up every morning », and being a big sports fan, that I found the job I might like in the world of sport.

Then, working in English, we had an appointment with the career’s adviser, which was a really good experience. He helped me decide on a career as a ‘sports journalist’, because I’d always said that my dream job would be to be at the stadium interviewing players or writing articles about them, in fact to experience the world from the inside and not from behind my television.

« Being a sports journalist isn’t just about reporting a match, it’s about conveying an emotion, a human story.” Nelson Monfort, French journalist, 2010

And then we had to go to the Horizon Forum, which is organized every year for 2nd year students and consists of going to see lectures by people who present a job that can help us find a job, which was my case with the job of “Sports Manager”, which is basically the same motivation as a sports journalist, to experience the world of sport from the inside, but it’s not at all the same job.

On the one hand, you have to be at the service of the press and feed the press, and on the other, you have to be part of a club and organize things or manage the club’s social networks, organize player interviews or activities, but during my future studies I’d always have the choice between these two professions by choosing “Sport and Movement” at UNIL.
