Among all the emotions we can feel throughout our schooling, two of them particularly concern me. social anxiety and self-confidence
To begin with, let’s talk about anxiety, in particular social anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling of nervousness, worry or unease that is part of normal human experience.
In my case, social anxiety manifests itself particularly at school. This is where everyone comes together. Everyone with a different style, thoughts and ways of acting. I sometimes fear being judged, offending others or being rejected. We sometimes try to avoid certain social situations, avoid certain people or situations that make us feel uncomfortable, like that moment when you have to tell the canteen-keeper what you want to eat.
If you’re in this situation, you know how unpleasant and burdensome it can be, always thinking about everything, stressing over everything and asking yourself questions all the time.
For some people, all this anxiety even ends up being reflected in physical ailments. But I might have a tip for you that has helped me in this situation.
This is where I come to self-confidence. Having low self-confidence doesn’t help us with our anxiety. We compare ourselves, we feel we’re no good, we’re afraid of failure, we’re sometimes very shy and expressing our personal opinion is very complicated, and so on. But if we work on our self-confidence, it can actually help us.
We need to focus on what makes us proud, and never forget that successes are also made up of failures. Also, try to detach yourself from the way others look at you. What they think of you doesn’t define you or diminish your worth.
